Besan tikki

Besan tikki is a good alternative for non-veg food, which takes care of your protein intake.

Ingredients :
Besan: 1/2 cup
Yoghurt : 1 tblsp
Cumin : 1/2 tsp
Carom seeds (ajwain) : 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp
Salt : to taste
Oil : 2 tblsp
Onion : 1
Tomato : 1/2
Potato (boiled) : 1 small
Green coriander : handful
Mint : 15 - 20 leaves
Tarragon : 2 sprigs (if available)
Ginger : 1/2 inch
Garlic (Indian) : 3 - 4 cloves
Green chili : 1
Lime juice: of half lime
Capsicum : 1 (optional)
Rava : as required (optional )

Procedure :

Take besan in a bowl, add yoghurt, turmeric powder, carom seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric, salt and yoghurt and mix it well.

Add water and whisk it to make a smooth batter.

Heat oil in a pan and sauté onion until translucent, then add tomatoes and sauté till they are soft.

Add the besan mixture to the sautéed onion and tomato and keep stirring until you get a scrambled egg consistency.

To this add boiled - mashed potato, chopped coriander, mint, terragon, lime juice, finely minced ginger, garlic and green chili; and mix everything well.

Take a lemon size ball of the prepared mixture and shape them into medallions, then dredge them with rava on each. Or stuff them into capsicum rings. This quantity will make around 6 tikkies.

Heat a griddle pan and oil it and fry the tikkies on each side. You may also fry them without the rava or stuffed inside capsicum rings

Serve it as a side dish with rice, or make a veg burger or a tikki chaat.
