Mackerel cutlets
Mackerel cutlets are fish cakes prepared with spices and onion. Can be served as snacks or along with main course. It also makes great fish burgers.
Ingredients:
Mackerels : 3
Salt : 1/2 tsp
Turmeric : 1/4 tsp
Vinegar : 1 tblsp
Sliced onion : 2
Water : 2 tblsp
Jeere meere masala : 1 tsp
Ketchup : 1 tblsp
Vinegar/ lemon juice : 3 tblsp
Garlic : 5 cloves
Ginger : 1 inch piece
Green chili : 1 or 2
Coriander : handful (optional)
Rava : for dredging
Oil : for shallow frying.
Procedure:
Clean the mackerels and marinate them with salt, turmeric and vinegar.
Slice onions and put them in a pan. Arrange the mackerels on top add 1 - 2 tblsp of water and cook on a low flame. Do not add too much water as the onions will release water.
Flip the fish once in between and cook till the water dries up.
Debone the fish and mix it with the cooked onion, add jeere meere masala, ketchup, vinegar, and mix well. Check on the salt.
Grind the mixture to a paste
To some ground fish paste add chopped garlic, ginger, green chili, coriander and roughly grind it.
Then mix it with the remaining fish paste.
Take some fish paste, shape into cutlets and coat with rava.
Then shallow fry on both the sides.
