Coconut white chutney
Coconut white chutney goes well as an accompaniment with idli, dosa, medu wada, pakoda, samosa etc.
Ingredients:
Grated coconut : 1 cup
Chana dal : 2 tblsp
Ginger : 1/2 inch piece
Green chilies : 1 - 2
Tamarind : marble size ball
Salt : to taste
Tempering:
Oil : 1 tblsp
Mustard : 1 tsp
Urad dal : 1 tsp
Curry leaves : 2
Dry red chilies : 2
Procedure:
Wash the chana dal, dry it and dry roast it on a low flame until it becomes light brown in colour. Or you can use the ready made one.
Put coconut, roasted chana dal, ginger, tamarind, green chilies and in a mixer jar grind it to make a thick paste using water.
For the tempering, heat oil, add mustard seeds and let them splutter then add washed urad dal, curry leaves and dry red chilies. Switch off the flame and add asafetida/ hing powder (optional)
Then pour the ground chutney into the tempering.
