Chicken asaad

Asaad is made of different meat like pork, beef and chicken.

Ingredients :

Chicken : 1 & 1/2 kg
Onion : 2 (medium size)
Tomato : 1 (big)
Oil : 2 tblsp
Garlic : 15 cloves
Ginger : 2 inch piece
Turmeric powder : 1 tsp
Pepper : 1 tsp
Cinnamon : 4 inch pieces
Cloves : 12
Cumin : 1 tsp
Spicy dry red chilies : 4 - 5
Tamarind : 2 lemon size balls
Vinegar : 1 ladle full
Salt : to taste

Procedure:

Clean the tamarind and soak it in water for 15 minutes.


Roughly grind the spices using the soaked tamarind and half of the ginger and garlic and make a paste. Make the paste course if you like less gravy and make it fine if you want more gravy.


Clean the chicken and marinate it with salt and vinegar first. Then add the ground masala and let it marinate for 1 or 2 hours.

Heat a sauce pan; put oil, chopped onion and sauté till they are translucent, then add tomatoes and sauté further. Crush the remaining ginger and garlic using a mortar pestle and add it in and saute for a few seconds.

Add the marinated chicken and one cup water and let it come to a boil. Then add the potato cubes and cook till its done. (adding potato is optional)

When everything is cooked you may add some coconut milk to reduce the spice and to give it a creamy flavour. This is optional.
