Onion upma


Upma

Ingredients:
Rava : 2 cups 
Water : 4 cups
Sesame seeds : 2 tblsp 
Oil : 4 tbls
Mustard : 1 tsp
Cumin seeds : 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves : 2 sprigs
Moong dal : 2 tblsp 
Peanuts : 2 tblsp 
Slit green chilies : 2 
Onion : 1
Ghee : 2 tblsp
Salt : 1 tsp
Sugar /Jaggery : 2 tblsp (optional)

Procedure:

Dry roast rava on a low flame until it turns light brown then add sesame seeds and roasted them further for another 2 minutes.

Tempering: 
Heat oil in a saucepan, add mustard, curry leaves, washed moong dal and let it brown lightly. If you are using raw peanuts then put them before the dal and roast well otherwise add after the dal is roasted.

Then add chopped onions and green chilies and  sauté till translucent. 

Add in the roasted rava and salt and stir for a few minutes.


Mean while boil water, add it to the rava mixture and stir well. Switch the flame off and keep it covered for a few minutes. You can also add in any sweetener if you wish.

Finally add ghee or olive oil and mix well.
