Mackerel pickle
Ingredients :
Mackrels : 3 (medium size)
Salt : 3/4 tsp
Tamarind : lemon size ball
Kashmiri chili powder : 2 tsp
Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder : 1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds : 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds : 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves : 1 sprig
Asafetida powder : 1/4 tsp
Procedure :
Clean the tamarind and soak it in water for 15 minutes.
Then extract the pulp and add salt, chili powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder and mix well.
Clean the mackerels, cut them into pieces and score the tails. Let them rest into the above marinade for an hour.
Heat oil in a saucepan, add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter, then add fenugreek seeds, curry leaves and stir for a while until the leaves turn crisp. Then add some asafoetida powder and mix well.
Finally add the fish along with the marinade and let it cook until it's done.
Let the curry thicken a bit. Add salt if required.
